Support National Parks for Nature*
I believe a
serious threat to nature is posed by the amendments to the NSW Wilderness
Act and the National Parks and Wildlife Act proposed by sections of
Government and the tourism industry, and call on the Premier Kristina
Keneally
not to deviate from the following principles:
-
Nature
conservation will remain the primary function of National Parks#
and Wilderness Areas,
-
The cost of visiting these
precious areas is kept small, so that parks remain accessible to everyone
as the most democratic spaces we have, free of elite commercial precincts;
-
No new buildings for
accommodation are constructed in national parks, and that the NPWS
continues to protect our parks from development, except for appropriately
located car parks, toilets, walking tracks and basic camping facilities,
and for some suitable parks, a visitor centre;
-
Plans of
management will continue to regulate the ecologically appropriate use of
national parks through open and transparent community participation
processes, with no fast track or other special park laws for the tourism
industry;
and
that
-
Wilderness areas must
remain undisturbed and free of all infrastructure, commercial uses and
large numbers of people, where natural processes can thrive and visitors
can renew their spirit.
If you agree with the above
statement, just send me a reply
email and enclose
your name
and address. I will ensure that you are added to the Parks for
Nature Petition to
Premier Reeves as stated above.
In addition, please print out
the
Petition to NSW Parliament
and get everyone you know to
sign it and
then post it back to me at the address below. I will forward these petitions
on
to a supporting Parliamentarian.
Also, please let me
know if you would like to be kept up to date on developments in this
campaign, so I can ‘keep you in loop.’
Sincerely,
Keith Muir
