To protect parks and wildlife from attack, environment and animal rights groups have formed the Parks and Native Animal Protection Coalition.

Good news! The Shooter's plans for killing native wildlife in national parks were blocked by the power of public opposition to the legislation. Thank you everyone who supported this campaign, well done.

Unfortunately the State Government has overturned the court's rejection of the Southern Highland Shooting Complex. The complex will be built with $5.6 million of taxpayers money, but the Shooters Party may have miscalculated public opposition to this plan. The destruction of 1000 hectares of former parkland may yet be stopped by community action.

Far more worrying still is the NSW Government's National Parks and Wildlife Amendment (Visitors and Tourists) Act 2010 passed by Parliament 9 June, 2010. The Government has weakened the laws that protect our national parks from privatisation and commercial exploitation. And the community was not asked if they wanted commercial development in their national parks, the last bastion of nature. Law must be replaced by many watchful eyes until new legislation is passed to remove Ministerial discretion over leases and require leases to be subject to the nature conservation purposes of National Parks.

Please express your disappointment and email the following MPs. Ask that National Parks be kept free of development and ask that they immediately legislate to remove the Ministerial discretion over whether any lease or development meets the heritage conservation requirements of the the National Parks and Wildlife Act. The protection of national parks from adverse impacts of privatisation must not remain at the discretion of an Environment Minister:

Premier Kristina Keneally - thepremier@www.nsw.gov.au
Environment Minister Frank Sartor -
office@sartor.minister.nsw.gov.au
Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell - LOP@parliament.nsw.gov.au
Shadow Environment Minister Catherine Cusack - catherine.cusack@parliament.nsw.gov.au Christian Democrat, Fred Nile - F.Nile@parliament.nsw.gov.au
Independent, Gordon Moyes - gordon.moyes@parliament.nsw.gov.au

We have to tell them national parks are for nature, loud and clear.
Join us, together we can protect our precious national parks for nature and our kids.

The following is now out of date, obviously, but the campaign will be reborn for the coming State election... till then, keep a close watch over our parks...
