DESCRIPTION

This area lies north of the Fortescue River and consists of a dissected
tableland from which rises the Sherlock River. The northern portion of the
plateau ends abruptly at a rugged escarpment. Proterozoic basalt dominates the
geology of the area. This area is separated from the adjoining Mungaroona Range
wilderness by a well-used station road. [1]

A hummock grassland of spinifex forms the dominant vegetation, with stretches of
open woodland and shrubland along watercourses. [2]

Fauna within this area is thought to be representative of western arid
environments, together with species associated specifically with the Pilbara
region. [3]
