LAND USE HISTORY
Squatters established grazing runs centred on the Cudgewa River and its
tributaries in the north of the area with licenced rund including Nariel, Adjie,
Wabba and Reedy Creek from the late 1830s. The river flats of these runs have
been grazed ever since and the present-day freehold lands largely correspond to
the better agricultural sectors of these runs. [4]
It is likely that Aborigines lived in the area since about 10,000 years ago.
Little evidence of Aboriginal occupation remains (other than a fish trap found
on the Gibbo River on the south-eastern edge of the block - the only site
recoded by the Victorian Archaeological Society). The area has not been subject
to detailed survey. [5]
