ENDNOTES
1
This area comes from the amalgamation of three areas identified by the
Wilderness Society (1990, "Submission to the Land Conservation Council"):
Cobberas-Indi-Pilot (69,000 ha), Reedy Gorge (48,000 ha) and Tingaringy-Byadbo
(40,000 ha).

2
The entire area is within the Alpine National Park.

3
Land Conservation Council, 1991, "Wilderness Special Investigation Final
Recommendations" identifies six areas as having wilderness qualities. Of these,
four - Indi addition to Pilot Wilderness Area (13,800 ha), Cobberas Addition to
Pilot Wilderness Area (10,000 ha), Cobberas addition to Pilot Wilderness Area
(10,000 ha) and Buchan Headwaters (30,000 ha) - were declared wilderness. The
remaining two identified wilderness areas - Davies Plain (10,500 ha) and Upper
Snowy (11,800 ha) were identified as Other Areas with Remote and Natural
Attributes. Davies Plain was not declared wilderness because of the impact on
recreational four-wheel-driving, grazing and an individual horse tour operator.
