DESCRIPTION
Most of this area consists of a low, undulating plateau with more mountainous
country in the north. Local relief is around 300 metres. Cambrian and
Proterozoic sediments underlie the area. [1]
Most of the area supports lowland cool temperate rainforest. Heath and sedgeland
communities are also present. [2]
Fauna within the area is thought to be representative of western Tasmania. [3]

CONSERVATION HISTORY
1979
The Centre for Environmental Studies, University of Tasmania publishes a report
to the Australian Heritage Commission describing thirteen wilderness areas in
Tasmania. Among these is a 21,000 ha Upper Savage River wilderness. [4]
THREATS
LOGGING
The area falls within a pulpwood concession and is liable to intensive logging
operations which would greatly reduce or eliminate the wilderness quality of the
area if permitted to proceed. [5]
