DESCRIPTION

The area consists of a deeply dissected sandstone plateau through which the
Dawson River and its tributaries have carved narrow gorges. [1]

Dominant tree species are Narrow-leaved Ironbark (Eucalyptus crebra), bloodwood
(E. polycarpa), Yellow Jack (E. watsoniana) and various stringybarks.
Understorey species usually consist of shrubs and vines. Minor areas of brigalow
(Acacia harpophylla) and softwood scrubs are found in the area. Alon gcreek
lines a fringing woodland of Dawson Palm (Livistona australis) and Forest Red
Gum (E. tereticornis) is found. [2]

Fauna within the area is typical of Central Highland sandstone areas in
Queensland. [3]
