DESCRIPTION
The area consists of a sedimentary basin of Jurassic sandstone bounded in the
east by ranges of Devonian sandstones. The ranges rise to a height of about 500
metres above the plain. The Jack Lakes which lie on the plain are clay basins
filled from the overflow of the main creeks draining the basin. [1]
Vegetation in the basin is primarily woodland dominated by melaleucas, eucalypts
and Barringtonia gracilis. Small pockets of gallery rainforest may be found
along streams. Eucalypts take over in hilly areas and on the ranges. Patches of
rainforest and heath occur where conditions are locally favourable. [2]
Little information is available about the area's fauna.
