DESCRIPTION

This is a coastal wilderness area, with the Melville Range rising over 400
metres above the adjacent coastal plain. The area is underlain by sandstones
with extensive Quaternary sand duens in the south-east. [1]

Streams are generally short, falling quickly from the Range to the coast. [2]

The crest of the Melville Range suports heath communities dominated by Grevillea
pteridifolia. Lower down, an open forest of Eucalyptus tetrodonta and various
bloodwood species exists. Sand dunes support heath and shrubland communities.
Low lying areas support low woodlands of Melaleucas, vine thickets and palm
forests. [3]

Little is known about the fauna of the area.
