DESCRIPTION
The Nombinnie area consists of a series of sand ridges and plains. The sandstone
hills of the area are of Devonian age. Local relief is slight with ridges
generally less than 10 metres above the intervening plains. [1]
Vegetation within the area is predominantly open mallee dominated by Eucalyptus
socialis and Eucalyptus dumosa. The understorey may be Porcupine Grass (Triodia
irritans) or a variety of shrubs. Areas of open woodland dominated by White
Cypress Pine (Callitris columellaris) and Belah (Casuarina cristata) provide
some diversity. [2]
Fauna of the area is representative of semi-arid environments with a number of
mallee-dependent species such as Mallee Fowl and striped skinks (Ctenotus spp.).[3]
