DESCRIPTION
The Gunderbooka Ranges lying in the east of the area incorporate sedimentary
rocks of late Devonian and Ordovician age. To the north are alluvial plains
associated with the Darling River floodplain. Mt Gunderbooka rises to a height
of about 500 metres - over 300 metres higher than the floodplain country. [1]
Vegetation of the area is a complex of woodland communities. The most widespread
is a community dominated by Bimble Box (Eucalyptus populnea), Mulga (Acacia
aneura) and other acacias. Other common dominants include White Pine (Callitris
columellaris), Wilga (Geijera parviflora) and Leopardwood (Flindersia maculosa).
They form a particularly interesting assemblage of species which is poorly
represented in teh Neww South Wales national parks system. [2]

LAND USE HISTORY
At the turn of the century gold was mined in this area. An old track extends
westwards through the area to the Gunderbooka Mines. [3]

No conservation history is recorded for this area.
THREATS
GRAZING
The area is used for pastoral purposes under various Western Lands leases.
Watering points, fences and roads are found scattered through the area. [4]
MILITARY
The area is included within the army artillery range proposed for the Cobar
district. [5]
