DESCRIPTION

The Bulloo Overflow consists of low lying swamps and small sand dunes
which are infrequently flooded by the Bulloo River from Queensland.
During floods the entire overflow area may be covered by water,
whilst in dry times the land is sparsely vegetated claypans. To
the west of the Overflow are stoney plains that merge into the steep
hills of the Grey Range [1].

The Bulloo Overflow represents a unique inland wetland system featuring a
'drought-flood' phenomena, which is reflected in the flora and fauna [2].

The area contains several rear species of birds, and supports a wide range
of water birds and migratory waders when in flood [3].
